Effects of not acting upon knowledge
By Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd and Muhammad bin Saalih al-’Uthaymeen may Allah have mercy on them both
Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd mentions in his book “The Etiquette of Seeking Knowledge” a statement collected by Al-Khateeb that ‘Ali Ibn Abi Taalib (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
هتف العلم بالعمل فان أجابه و الا ارتحل
“Knowledge calls for action, so either the call is answered or (knowledge) will take off.”
Shaykh Ibn al-‘Uthaymeen comments on this and mentions a line of poetry:
و عالم بعلمه لم يعملن معذب من قبل عباد الوثن
“The learned person that does not act upon his knowledge will be punished before worshipers of idols.”
