Imaam Maalik bin Anas 179 AH said to a young man from Quraysh, يا ابن أخي تعلم الأدب قبل أن تتعلم العلم “O son of my brother, learn manners before learning knowledge.” Source: Hilyatul Awliyaa 6/330

Imaam Maalik bin Anas 179 AH said, من أحب أن تفتح له فرجة في قلبه فليكن عمله في السر أفضل منه في العلانية “Whoever loves for their heart to be opened up with happiness, then let their deeds be in secret. (That) is more virtuous than performing them in public.” Taken from: Tarteeb al-Madaarik 2/60

Imaam Maalik bin Anas 179 AH said, ان هذا العلم هو لحمك و دمك و عنه تسأل يوم القيامة فانظر عمن تأخذه “Indeed this knowledge is your flesh and blood, and on the Day of Judgement you’ll be asked about it. Therefore, look to whom you take (knowledge) from.” Source: al-Kifaayah 21

Imaam Maalik bin Anas 179 AH said, لا تأخذ العلم من سفيه معلن بالسفه وإن كان أروى الناس “Do not take knowledge from a fool who is known for his foolishness, even if he narrates more than anyone.” Jaami lil Akhlaq ar-Rawi wa Adab as-Saami’ 1/139

Imaam Maalik bin Anas 179 AH said to Ibn Wahb, لَمْ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ يَسْلَمُ رَجُلٌ حَدَّثَ بِكُلِّ مَا سَمِعَ وَلاَ يَكُونُ إِمَامًا أَبَدًا وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُ بِكُلِّ مَا سَمِعَ “Know that a man who relates everything he hears is not safe, and he can never be an Imām, as long as he narrates everything he hears.”…

Imaam Maalik bin Anas 179 AH (may Allah have mercy on him) said: السنة مثل سفينة نوح من ركبها نجا و من تخلف عنها هلك “The Sunnah is like the Ark of Nuh. Whoever embarks upon it reaches salvation and whoever refuses is drowned.” Quoted by Shaikh ul-Islaam Ibn Taimiyyah in Majmoo’ ul-fataawaa (4/57)
