Imaam Maalik bin Anas 179 AH (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

من ابتدع في الإسلام بدعة يراها حسنة فقد زعم أن محمدا.. خان الرسالة

، ثم قال : “اقرأوا إن شئتم قول الله تعالى: (الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإسْلامَ دِيناً

، فما لم يكن يومئذٍ ديناً لا يكون اليوم ديناً

Whoever introduces an innovation into Islam thinking that it is good is implying that Muhammad (peace be upon him) betrayed his mission, because Allah says:

“…This day, I have perfected your religion for you…” [Maidah 5:3]
So, whatever was not part of the religion on that day, cannot be part of the religion today.
