By Shaykh Muhammad ibn Sa’eed Raslaan may Allah preserve him

The Shaykh clarifies to us the signs of Ahlul Bid’ah in his book, “Da’aaim Minhaaj an-Nubuwa” on pgs 109-135. He says,

The most important signs of the people of innovation are that they:

1. (Cause) division that Allah has warned against in His statement,

إنَّ الَّذِيـنَ فَرَّقُـوا دِيـنَهُمْ وَكَـانُـوا شِيعًا لَّـسْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ

“Verily, those who divide their religion and break up into sects (all kinds of religious sects), you (O Muhammad) have no concern in them in the least.” [Surah An’aam: 159]

2. Follow unclear verses

فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ

“So as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof” [Surah Ali Imraan: 7]

3. Follow their desires

أَرَءَيْتَ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ إلَهَهُ هَوَىهُ

“Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (god)” [Surah Jaathiyah: 23]

4. Oppose the Sunnah with the Qur’an

5. Hate the people of narrations and they give evil nicknames to the people of Sunnah

6. Abandon following the Madhhab of the Salaf

7. Are ambiguous in issues that requires detail and clarification

8. Follow assumptions

وما يتبع أكثرهم إلا ظنا إن الظن لا يغني من الحق شيئا

“And most of them follow not except assumption. Indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all.” [Surah Yunus: 36]

9. Argue about falsehood

10. Are stubborn and arrogant

11.Deny the truth after it being shown to them

12. Defame/Slander the people of the truth and those who call to them. This is their clearest sign. Indeed, the people of desires slander the scholars of sunnah and glorify the innovators.
