Ruling of the one who learns the Qur’an and knowledge but doesn’t act upon it
By Shaykh Muqbil bin Haadee al-Waadi’ee may Allah have mercy on him
Question: What is the legislative ruling for the one who recites the Qur’an and learns knowledge but does not implement them?
Answer: This is just as Allah said:
“The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books].” (Suratul Jumu’ah: 5)
“O you who have believed, indeed many of the scholars and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly and avert [them] from the way of Allah. And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah” (Suratul Tawbah: 34)
“And recite to them, [O Muhammad], the news of him to whom we gave [knowledge of] Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Satan pursued him, and he became of the deviators.
And if We had willed, we could have elevated him thereby, but he adhered [instead] to the earth and followed his own desire. So his example is like that of the dog: if you chase him, he pants, or if you leave him, he [still] pants. That is the example of the people who denied Our signs.” (Suratul ‘Araaf: 175-176)
(And these people) are evil scholars and Allah’s aid is sought…
