In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful
Does the one who listens to lectures on the internet receive the same blessing as those present?
By Shaykh Zayd al-Madkhali may Allah have mercy on him
This benefit can be found in the shaykh’s explanation of Lum’atul ‘Itiqaad p.167, 185-184)
Question: Does the one who follows classes of the scholars on the internet, phone, or radio attain the same blessing (as those present) for the gathering?
Answer: Those whom you have mentioned are attaining tremendous benefits. Firstly: They are considered to be seekers of knowledge, and the seeker of knowledge is from the most virtuous of people. They are the most virtuous of people in their time if they intend seeking knowledge for the purpose of lifting ignorance from themselves, act upon their knowledge, and share it with others.
Secondly: Indeed seeking knowledge, whether it is sitting by oneself or in a congregation, will cause tranquility to descend, Allah’s mercy to envelop, and the angels to surround them. This is for the people who follow the circles of knowledge based on the Kitaab and Sunnah. As for the other paths (listening on internet, phone, radio) of seeking knowledge, then therein lies a great reward, and their reward is not any less than those who are present with the scholars, in shaa Allah.
