In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful
Do you only worship Allah in Ramadan?
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Aziz bin Abdillah bin Baaz may Allah have mercy on him
Question: There is a statement, “A people will not be successful who do not know Allah except in Ramadan”, is this a hadith?
Answer: This is from the statements of the salaf. Some of the salaf were asked about people who were diligent with worship in Ramadan and when Ramadan departs they stop. So they said, “Evil are a people who do not know Allah except in Ramadan”, and this is correct if they neglect the obligations of the religion. Like praying in Ramadan the (daily) prayers and not praying outside of Ramadan. This is evil because they disbelieved by abandoning the prayer, and leaving the prayer is disbelief. We ask Allah for His safety. As for if some of the recommended actions are left off in other months then this doesn’t hurt. That is because people are more diligent in carrying out different types of recommended acts of worship in Ramadan, like giving (extra) charity. So if he eases up with these recommended acts of worship after Ramadan then it is not said that he is an evil person.
