Ruling of remaining silent on mistakes for fear of division
By Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin al-Abbaad al-Badr May Allah preserve him
Question: What is your advice, may Allah preserve you, for one who says, “Rebuking one who opposes the Sunnah causes division between the Muslims. It is obligatory for us to remain silent on the mistake until we unite the Muslims”?
Answer: This is not correct! This is false! Rather the mistake should be clarified and made clear, it is not left. As for leaving the mistake because it causes separation, then, separation occurs because of opposition and leaving the path (of the Qur’an and Sunnah). It is obligatory to clarify the truth and rebuke what is false.
If the one who made the mistake is not from the people of innovation and is from the people of the Sunnah, then he is advised and treated kindly in order to bring reconciliation.
