In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful
Allah’s name al-‘Alee العلي
By Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin al-Abbaad al-Badr May Allah preserve him
The shaykh mentions this point of benefit in his book “Qatful Janaa ad-Daani” which was an explanation of the great Imaam Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawaani’s 386 AH introduction. He says under the statement, ““His Footstool embraces the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not tire Him. He is the Most High, the Magnificent”:
His Highness is in regards to three things:
1. His ability علو القدر :
2. His power علو القهر
3. His essence علو الذات
His Name al-‘Alee (the Most High) is connected to three other names in the Quran; al-‘Alee always comes before the other names.
1. It is connected to al-‘Adheem (the Most Great),
وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِىُّ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
“…and He is the Most High, the Most Great.” (surah ash-Shuraa: 4)
2. It is connected to al-Hakeem (the Most Wise),
إِنَّهُ ۥ عَلِىٌّ حَڪِيمٌ۬
“Verily, He is Most High, Most Wise” (surah ash-Shuraa: 51)
3. It is connected to al-Kabeer (the most Great),
وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡعَلِىُّ ٱلۡڪَبِيرُ
“…He is the Most High, the Most Great.” (surah Luqman: 30)
