Obligation of learning the rulings of Salah (for the one who is ignorant)
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Aziz bin Abdillah bin Baaz may Allah have mercy on him
Question: My grandmother is a woman who prays a lot, however her prayers are not done correctly. So I have tried (correcting her) but she says: ” You learned (to pray) from so and so.” Thus, what is the ruling regarding her prayer?Answer: Try correcting the parts (in her prayer) where she errs as much as you can. If you know the evidences and Allah’s ruling (on the prayer) in what you (intend to) mention (to her), then try to advise and clarify for her where she made mistakes. For instance, if she does not recite (surah) al-Fatihah then teach her, if she doesn’t say the tashahhud then teach her, and if she bows and prostrates too quickly then teach her. Moreover, tell her: “What you are doing is not adequate (correct),” and mention narrations (pertaining to this) from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) until she is reassured and fully understands.
