Is it permissible to kiss the Mushaf?
By Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-’Uthaymeen may Allah have mercy on him
Question: What is the ruling of kissing the Mushaf?
Answer: Kissing the Mushaf is an innovation. The one kissing does so because he intends to become closer to Allah. However, it is known that none can become closer to Allah except by acting upon what He has legislated. Allah has not legislated kissing the writing of His speech. In the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) the Qur’an was written, however, it was not collected altogether. The verses were written down and the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not kiss them. Nor did any of the companions. Therefore, this is an innovation and is prohibited. I have (also) seen some people kissing the mushaf and placing it on their foreheads as if they were making prostration on it, and this is also evil.
