In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful
The believer should constantly fear being misguided
By Shaykh Rabee’ bin Haadee al-Madkhali may Allah preserve him
The Shaykh mentions this benefit in the book, “Marhaban Yaa Taalibal ‘Ilm” on page 72. He says,
The believer constantly fears for his situation to change. It has been attributed to ‘Aisha and Anas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would frequently say:
يا مقلبَ القلوبِ ثبت قلبي على دينك
Yaa Muqallibal Quloob, Thabbit Qalbee ‘Ala Deenik
“O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion”
So I (Anas) said, ‘O Prophet of Allah! We believe in you and what you have come with, but do you fear for us?’
He said: ‘Yes. Indeed the hearts are between two Fingers of Allah’s Fingers, He changes them as He wills.’
This is, by Allah, fiqh (understanding). Mankind should not feel safe for himself, because,
الشيطان يجري من ابن آدمَ مجرىٰ الدم
‘Satan circulates in the human body as blood does.’ [Bukhari 7171]
So the believer must guard his heart, intellect, knowledge with extreme guardianship. He must be more severe in guarding these things more than he guards his wealth and honor…
‘Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.’ [Surah Aali ‘Imraan: 8]
