Foundation of innovation: Khawaarij (Part 4 of 5) -Shaykh Fawzaan

In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful

Foundation of innovation: Khawaarij (Part 4 of 5)

by Shaykh Saalih bin Fawzaan al-Fawzaan may Allah preserve him

The shaykh mentions this point of benefit in his explanation of “Sharhus Sunnah” under the 110th point:

The third foundational sect: The Khawaarij

They are those who go against the leader of the Muslims. They declare those who commit major sins other than shirk to be disbelievers and make lawful the blood of Muslims. They are people of extremism in the religion. They have the deen, acts of worship, fear of Allah, fasting, standing in prayer, recitation of Qur’an, but without any fiqh (understanding) and clear evidence. For this, they went astray and we seek Allah’s refuge from that.

They left the leadership of the believers ‘Ali bin Abi Taalb and began fighting against him. Allah helped the believers against the Khawaarij, but they didn’t cease to fight those who are in authority. They make lawful the blood of Muslims, and declare those who commit major sins to be disbelievers.

They are given the name “al-Wa’idiyah”, because they act upon the verses of threats without any difference between major sins, shirk and kufr. Every person who does a major sin is a disbeliever according to them. It is not sufficient to declare them disbelievers, rather they go to extent and make their blood permissible, they kill the Muslims, and they do not kill the disbelievers. For this the Prophet (peace be upon him) said about their attributes,

“They will kill the people of Islam and leave the worshippers of Idols alone” (Bukhari)

There are some of their sects which are more severe than others.
